Shaykh Yahya was born and raised in Toronto. He is currently the Head Imam of Masjid al Salaam and Education Centre in Burnaby, BC. Before moving to BC in 2014, he held various positions as an Imam and teacher in the GTA. He is also a Mediator dealing with both civil and family disputes using a collaborative conflict resolution model.
In his decade-plus of being an Imam, he has delivered lectures at masājid and centres across North America, facilitated cultural sensitivity training for law enforcement and other professions in the public and private sectors, conducted workshops for Muslims and non-Muslims on any number of topics relating to Islam and Muslims, spoken at University campuses to both students and teachers, helped with the resettling of Syrian refugees (in particular refugee children into the school system), and counselled community members on an array of topics.
Shaykh Yahya’s hobbies are reading, hiking, weightlifting, and spending time with his family.
