Mariam is a journalist by day and content creator by night aiming to uplift the voices of those around her. She started posting on social media as a means to fill the gap in the worlds of plus-size modest fashion and mental health awareness. Mariam is candid about her experience as a plus-size hijabi and about her journey with mental health concerns especially after becoming a mom in 2020. Since starting her blog in late 2016, she has grown a mighty audience of almost 20,000 across platforms and has had the opportunity to write for high-profile publications such as Today’s Parent, the Toronto Star and Muslim Girl.
While Mariam eventually received her Bachelor’s degree in Journalism in 2022, she previously studied two different streams of Engineering before making the switch in 2019.
Growing up as a mixed-race woman in one of the world’s most diverse cities, Mariam found herself living on a tight rope between her identities — often having to downplay one side to fit in. It wasn’t until she started her post-secondary education nearly a decade ago when she realized she could carve out her own space and encourage others to live life authentically.
On top of the many hats Mariam wears, she is a proud mom to two boys, who are two years old and a newborn and a proud wife of almost five years.
